Search Engines Search engines index pages by machine evaluation of keywords on pages. They attempt to index all nine billion + web pages, but are easily confused or tricked. Google frequently receives awards as the best all-around search engine. Google Services include News and University Search (TTU.edu). Directories Directories are edited by humans. They do not cover as many total pages, but usually are more relevant. Yahoo The oldest directory (stared in 1994) and the busiest? web site (237 million individuals/month). dmoz Open Directory Project Volunteer editors build the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory; over 4 million sites, 75,151 editors, over 590,000 categories. Google Directory Now has a directory in addition to their search engine. |

Google Toobar Features is worth reading. I like to mark a word or phrase on a web page and drag and drop it in the empty Search Box. PageInfo|Similar Pages is handy too. |
