Professor Bennett Neiman holds two-year Master of Architecture from Yale and a six-year Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. From 1978 until 1984 he worked for Professor David Niland (University of Cincinnati) on several built projects. He taught architectural design at University of Colorado at Denver/Boulder from 1987-2004, earning tenure in 1995. From January 2001 until January 2004 he served as Associate Chair of the Architecture Department at the University of Colorado at Denver. Other schools he has taught at include: University of Cincinnati (1981), North Dakota State University (1983-84), Miami University (1984-85), University of Texas at Arlington (1985-87), University of Tennessee (1991), Roger Williams University (1999-2000). He has conducted analog-digital design workshops at Carleton University, University of Utah, and California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo. In January 2004, he was appointed to the Texas Tech University College of Architecture as a tenured Associate Professor. Since 1983, Professor Neiman has received several honors for a series of self-generated architectural design projects, competitions, and teaching involving improvisation, order, and variation on a theme. His design workshops, seminars, and studios exploit the strengths of both traditional media and digital technology. His students have won or placed in the annual awards program for digital design conducted by formZ. In 1994, he was the recipient of the University of Colorado at Denver Outstanding Teacher of the Year, and the College of Architecture and Planning Excellence in Teaching Award. He earned the American Institute of Architects AIA Education Honors Award in 1994 and 1998 for this work. He received the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture Faculty Design Award, in 1990 for Surrealistic Landscapes and in 2005-2006 for bebop SPACES. |
