interstitial electronic space machine 1987
A great building, in my opinion,
must begin with the unmeasurable,
must go through measurable means when it is being designed
and in the end must be unmeasurable.

Louis I. Kahn

Electronic space is infinite, microscopic, and intangible. You cannot see it physically. Information, whether text or graphic is translated by the electronic space machine into bits or impulses of information traveling at near the speed of light. The Intelligent Market is a machine which translates and processes the written word or the visual graphic image for use by the information society user. The process is an inversion of the Kahn dictum; it starts with the measurable, goes through the unmeasurable (electronic space) when it is being transmitted and in the end becomes measurable. The visual image represented here becomes the interstitial condition of the unmeasurable electronic space of the intelligent market. A visual arpeggio of intrigues and intricacies.

Awarded Honorable Mention, Central Glass International Architectural Design Competition, 1987.

Judge's Comments: The American entry of Bennett Robert Neiman interprets information as something imperceptible to the five senses and attempts to generate beauty by minimizing the transparent, the weightless, and the long-abiding. -Yoshiro Ikehara
