A simpler way to add printers

We have developed software to add printers to your computer.

  • download the installer for OSX Tiger or OSX Leopard
  • If you receive a warning that the file is an application and may harm your computer, it is fine to proceed with downloading the software.
  • A file called apprinters.cmd will be placed on your desktop or downloads folder
  • Double-click the addprinters application.
  • A text box will be displayed: Follow the onscreen instructions to add the printers to your computer
  • This utility adds only the College of Architecture printers, and will not delete any of your other printers
  • Printer passwords are stored separately from your system passwords, so it is necessary re-run this script every time you have changed your eRaider password.
  • If you want to add printers manually, the instructions are posted below
  • If you have problems using the script, contact the author

To add the College of Architecture printers open your Macintosh disk, and navigate to the Applications folder. From the Applications folder, open the Utilities folder.

In the Utilities folder, open the Printer Setup Utility

Click the Add button.

At the present time, you cannot connect to the printers using the usual tools. In the Printer Browser hold the option key and press the More Printers... button.

Click the drop-down list at the top, and choose advanced. This option will not appear if you didn't press the option key in the last step.

As Device: you should choose Windows Printer via SAMBA

In the Device Name: field you can put any text you like describing the printer. For example: HP 1055 Bond.

The crucial piece of information is the Device URI. Copy and paste the URI associated with the printer name from the list of devices. Paste this information into the Device URI field. Change username item to your eRaider username, and likewise password to your eRaider password. Make certain that there are no extra lines or spaces at the end of this URI, otherwise the printer will not be found

Under Printer Model: choose the appropriate driver name from the drop-down list. Drive names are specified on the list.

Repeat this process for each printer you want to use.

You will have to delete these printer definitions and recreate them after changing your eRaider password, or use the script posted above.
