The
Project:
-Translating a piece of musical composition into its visual reflection.
The final product would be a 30-60 second animated film with characteristics
of the musical composition represented visually.
The
Process:
The
conceptual design evolution process would involve listening to a
piece of music and converting the visuals/feelings that flash into
the mind into gestures and animating them over time to form the visual
reflection of the musical theme.
The
mind dissolves into and wanders through the lanes of the yonder land
of the musical melody. A journey through myriad memories, introspections,
deep truths and turbulences, darkness and ecstasy as one gets doused
in the singular intensity of the music.
Images suspended in the blackness of the mind-flashes- visuals surfacing from
the deep depths of the mind, as the mind responds to the individual components
and the composite whole of the composition.
These flashes are then translated into gestures and strokes which are animated
over time to form the visual reflection of the symphony.
The
Space:
The virtual construct of the animation would be a volatile space in the process
of constant change-constantly, instantly and spontaneously sculpted by
the elements of the musical piece over time. The space would grow, evolve,
disintegrate and resurrect with the music shaping every form of it. There
would be a central theme or a story line that ties up the entire animation,
with the characters evolving with the changing crescendos of the musical
composition.
Research
areas:
• Studies on how the interplay of visuals and music amalgamate to complement
the central idea or the story.
• Research into the making of the movies ‘Fantasia’ and ‘Fantasia
2000’-the process of how the musical notes were translated into their visual
counterpart.
