Exercise
One
X Y Z
A Three Directional Object
Given: Thursday January 16 2020
Due: Thursday February 6 2020
Exercise
Description:
Your task is to connect three “objects” in a tectonic way using the three
directions X, Y, and Z. Imagine working in a way similar to three dimensional
modeling programs such as Rhino, CAAD Autodesk, or Form Z. Each of the
directions should be coming/going from/to, or meeting in a 90 degree angle.
ddf students are especially encouraged to make a XYZ connection(s) involving ddf
equipment such as our Laser Cutters, the Haas 3 axis router. For this exercise I
would stay away from the 3d printer.
Your final object should be no larger than 18”, but no smaller than 4” in each
direction. You may start by first sketching up a solution before producing it in
the Architecture Shops.
Materials:
Choice of materials is left to you. It can be one single material such as wood
or multiple materials together. How you connect the pieces will be the key. What
is holding the three different pieces together as a single object?
Grading Criteria:
Overall Tectonic Quality.
Originality/Creativity of object.
Functionality and Strength of object.
